Bakersfield Accident Kills Madera Women in 2-Vehicle Highway Crash

December 30, 2020 Alan Ahdoot

A 24-year-old woman from Maderna was killed in an automobile accident in Bakersfield recently. The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 43 and Peterson Road. The driver of the Nissan Versa was taken to Kern Medical center and pronounced dead. The California Highway Patrol reported the driver of the Nissan Versa ran a red stop sign and crashed into a 2007 Nissan Murano. The driver drove right past the stop sign and right into traffic. The driver and passenger of the 2007 Nissan Murano were taken from the scene to Kern Medical Center for injuries. Both passengers from the vehicle were 65 years old and from Waco, Texas. The crash resulted in road closures and appeared to be a head-on collision. The accident occurred right before 5:00 pm. Unfortunately, the driver who succumbed to their injuries information is not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation and notification of next of kin. It is still unknown the exact reason as to why the driver of the Nissan Versa failed to stop at the stop sign. Once the vehicles collided, they came to a rest in the northbound center of the intersection. It took medical responders approximately 30 minutes to respond. At 5:33 pm, it was reported major injuries had occurred and one individual was not alert. The crash continues to be under investigation and if anyone was a witness or has further information regarding this accident please contact the Bakersfield Police Department.

The stop signs are placed at these intersections specifically to prevent accidents. Failing to stop at these stop signs may result in an auto accident resulting in serious injury or death. When driving, it is also important to take your time and have patience as rushing to get to your location can be detrimental and result in an accident. If you feel like you are going to be in a rush, try giving yourself extra time. Rearrange your schedule if you have to and start giving yourself more time to get from point A to point B safely. While many of us may think we are excellent drivers, this is not always the case. We can make mistakes just as quickly as everyone else and it takes a split second for an accident to occur. It is further important to be mindful of other drivers as you cannot read the other drivers’ minds as to what kind of move they are going to make. This is why we should all take a stand and slow down when driving to be safe and protect ourselves, loved ones, and our community.
