December 2, 2020 Alan Ahdoot

The family of a 23-year-old woman killed in July’s car crash is filing a wrongful death suit against the suspect, the deputy sheriff of Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, Daniel Auner. He has been. The parents of the victim claimed that Auner was driving under the influence of alcohol, and broke the speed limits while doing so. The other occupants of the vehicle the victim was in stated that they have the footage of the incident proving the claims of the victim’s parents. Auner was found to have been driving a Dodge Charger and crashed a pole during the incident that killed the victim, Ashley Wells. Auner was not booked and has been on paid administrative leave since the incident.

Can You Sue Law Enforcement Officials for a Car Accident?

It is possible, but generally, it is advised to file the claim against the local, state, or federal government that employs them. However, this can only be done if the car accident occurs while the officer was working. If the situation is like the one described in the case above, then you should pursue the claim directly against the officer. It is especially important to pursue a case such as this in civil court since it is quite rare for law enforcement to be convicted for car accidents, even in DUI cases.
