Fatal Hit-and-Run in Long Beach Killed One Person

October 27, 2020 Alan Ahdoot

A fatal hit-and-run was reported to have occurred on Monday, October 19th, in Long Beach. Long Beach Police Department is the lead investigator for the case. They received information that a male pedestrian was struck in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Lewis Avenue at around 7:20 p.m. The driver of the vehicle responsible fled the scene.

Eyewitnesses described the vehicle as a dark-colored sedan, which might have been a Dodge Challenger. The pedestrian was trying to cross the road although he was doing it outside of the pedestrian crossing. First responders at the scene managed to transport the man, who sustained heavy injuries, to the nearest hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his wounds and died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Can Pedestrians Sue the State for Injuries Caused by Inadequate Pedestrian Facilities?

Sometimes, a car accident can occur when pedestrians fail to follow the traffic regulations that are applicable to them, such as crossing the road only when the pedestrian light signal is on. But, what if the facilities that they are supposed to receive were inadequate, thus causing them to not follow the applicable regulations. Then the fault of the incident can be directed to the governmental agency that is responsible to manage road signs. Pedestrians who were injured in this type of case can pursue a personal injury claim against the state.
