October 27, 2020 Alan Ahdoot

A motorcyclist died after fleeing from CHP (California Highway Patrol) officers on Sunday, October 19th. The incident took place around 4:30 p.m., on 91 Freeway and Lakewood Boulevard. A man of unknown age was riding his motorcycle on 91 Freeway, traveling above the imposed speed limit when a CHP officer asked him to pull over. The man disregarded the request, increased his speeds, and exited the highway, fleeing to Lakewood Boulevard. While trying to evade police pursuit, the motorcyclist was struck by another vehicle, a Kia Sorento, on the crossroads of Lakewood Boulevard. He sustained severe injuries from the crash. The motorcyclist was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Can You Pursue A Claim When Your Vehicle Was Damaged in the Middle of Police Pursuit?

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, California had the highest rate of fatalities during police pursuits in the United States from 1995 to 2015. This is not even counting the number of those injured, or those who sustained vehicle damages from the police chase. Thus, it isn’t uncommon to find individuals choosing to file a claim against the state or local government for damages sustained from a police pursuit. As a civilian, you have the right to do this. If you’d like to know more about how to pursue this type of claim, call us at (800) 310-1606 to get a free consultation, available 24/7.
