Car Collision at Shafter Killed One Driver

September 24, 2020 Alan Ahdoot

A two-vehicle collision was reported to have taken place at Shafter on Monday, September 21st. The crash occurred around Burbank Street and Scaroni Avenue. California Highway Patrol was the first responder at the scene. The car accident involved a gray Nissan Altima and a white Chevrolet SUV.

The Nissan Altima was about to exit an intersection when the Chevrolet crashed into it. Both vehicles spun out of control and hit a nearby fence. The man driving the Nissan Altima had fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was found to have not been wearing his seatbelt during the accident. The Chevrolet driver, a 30-year-old man, did not sustain any injuries from the crash.

Can Your Insurance Claim Be Denied from Lack of Seatbelt?

NHTSA found that nearly 50% of people who died in traffic-related accidents did not use seat belts. This is the type of statistics that will work against you when you try to file an insurance claim and you were not using a seat belt in the car accident. Generally, this doesn’t mean that you won’t receive any payout from your insurance. But, you will get less than you should have.
